The Wisconsin Homeowners Alliance
For a number of second home owners there is a common misconception that no one is looking out for their home ownership best interests. Enter the Wisconsin REALTORS® Association, WRA and their establishment of the Wisconsin Homeowners Alliance.
This nonpartisan, nonprofit advocacy agency was established in 2005 by the WRA for the purposes of “advancing and promoting issues of concern to all Wisconsin property owners” (source, http://www.homeownersalliance.org).
The effort is primarily an online Internet-based news channel on legislative and environmental issues that face Wisconsin property owners. Online, users will find links to current issues, news releases, a printable monthly publication, state-wide housing statistics, links to pertinent resources and contact information to the WRA directly.
Established in 1908, The WRA has a team of attorneys, lobbyists and Government Affairs counselors working full-time from their headquarters in Madison . Until the establishment of the Wisconsin Homeowners Alliance the information and workings of these professionals was intended to benefit REALTOR® members and, in trickle-down fashion, those they represent.
The establishment of the Wisconsin Homeowners Alliance represents a break from REALTOR® only communications and reflects an effort by the real estate community to reach out to homeowners on a one-to-one basis. WRA VP Michael Theo says the Alliance will keep state and local officials, and the public, aware of how various proposed policies could help - or hurt - housing and property ownership.
The impetus to its creation was to bring homeowners in direct contact with the current issues facing them on the state and local level, giving Wisconsin residents a window to state issues affecting their property. The Wisconsin Homeowners Alliance website is administrated by the WRA and is updated regularly.
